LOAD CELL TYPES:
S-Type load cells:
These cells are used in applications when straight up or straight down tension or compression is used. The most common uses are hanging scales, hoppers scales or mechanical conversions of older lever scales. They can be directly mounted or the better use is to mount them in isolated tension mounts so when you hang them they will have a slight amount of movement to prevent binding.
Single Point Bending Beam load cells:
These cells are used in small platform scales from 1 kg to 500 kg. capacity. They are usually made out of Aluminum but some are also available in stainless steel for better wash-down applications. These are most commonly bolted to the frame of the platform and have a platter bolted to the top.
Single Ended Beam load cells:
These are used primarily in floor scales (also referred to as pallet scales) although they can also be used in tank mounts. They range in size from 500 lb capacity to 20,000 lb capacity. They have a threaded hole in one end so they can be used with adjustable feet screwed directly into the cell or can be loaded by suspension ball applications.
Double Ended Beam load cells:
These are most commonly found under truck scales. They come in 2 varieties, one mounts in the center and can be used to suspend truck scale decks, the other mounts on each end and you load in the middle and is mostly used for large tanks and silos.
Canister load cells:
These fit into mounts and are used under truck scales. They are made to set in the mounts and the deck is lowered onto them.
Hydraulic load cells:
These are available in various sizes to operate in single platforms to multiple cells under a truck scale. They operate on a thin layer of hydraulic fluid that is in turn ran to a totalizer. This transfers the pressure to an electronic load cell that can be read by the indicator. This is different from analog load cells. The tubing is isolated from the totalizer itself by rubber hoses that makes the scale impervious to lightning. The nature of the hydraulic cell also makes it water proof. These are very good for locations where weather is an issue.
